FAQ: What are the changes to electricity prices in land lease communities?

New maximum electricity prices for residents in land lease communities commence on 25 September 2024

The new rules will now apply to third party suppliers, including energy retailers, operating in a land lease community.
FAQ: How do the new maximum prices work?
The maximum prices are set through legislation. There is now a maximum price that a land lease operator can charge residents for each electricity network area in NSW.

FAQ: Does my park operator need to use the Reckless method for calculating my bills?
No. The changes made to the Residential (Land Lease) Communities Act means that community operators do not have to follow the Reckless Method after 25 September 2024.
The new maximum prices allow operators to recover the costs of maintaining and administering their electricity embedded networks through electricity charges.
FAQ: I think the maximum prices are too high – can I complain about this?
The maximum prices are set through legislation. You can raise your complaint to NSW Fair Trading if you have any concerns relating to the way the prices are set by the Residential (Land Lease) Communities Act.
FAQ: What do I do if I cannot understand my new charges, or I think my park operators is charging more than the maximum prices?
Always talk to the operator of your land lease community first. Discuss your concerns and if you still consider the community operator is charging a higher amount than the maximum supply charge or the maximum usage charge, contact Fair Trading on 13 32 20.
FAQ: Am I entitled to a discount if my site is supplied with less than 60 amps?
Yes. If your site is supplied with:

between 30 amps and 60 amps - you will receive a 30% discount to your daily supply charge.

less than 30 amps - you will receive a 60% discount to your daily supply charge.
FAQ: What can I complain to EWON about?
Always talk to the operator of your Land Lease community first. Discuss your concerns and if you are still not satisfied, you can complain to EWON if:

you think your electricity usage charges have not been correctly calculated or you believe they are based on incorrect usage.

you think the discount to your daily supply charge based on the amps supplied to your home is incorrect.

you have concerns about your ability to pay your invoice or you believe you might be at risk of disconnection.
