Energy bills will now be easier for consumers to understand. From October 2023, energy retailers must comply with new rules under the Australian Energy Regulator's (AER) Better Bills Guideline.
The new guidelines will help raise awareness of external dispute resolution services by ensuring the contact details of ombudsman schemes are visible on the front page of energy bills. This will build confidence in member complaint processes and ensure customers are aware of their right to access our service.
The guidelines will also help households and small businesses understand their energy use and costs and find the deal that best suits their needs. It will also mandate the use of plain, clear language in their bills, highlighting the most useful information on the first page.
