There are several water providers that service designated areas in NSW. Hunter Water, Sydney Water, and Water NSW are required to become members of EWON under their operating licence. Councils that supply water are not required to be members of EWON, but may join voluntarily. Water providers licensed under the Water Industry Competition Act are required to be members of EWON, see the Water Industry Competition Act 2006 (NSW) Section 50.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) oversees licensing, pricing and compliance of water providers.
If you have a complaint about a water provider that isn't a member of EWON, contact the NSW Ombudsman.
